General Information:
Atrazine, the most heavily used herbicide for corn and soybeans in the US in 1987/89, may also be released in wastewater from manufacturing facilities. In high levels atrazine may cause cardiovascular damage, kidney problems; low blood pressure; muscle spasms; weight loss; damage to adrenal glands; retinal and muscle degeneration; cancer. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set the Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) at 3 parts per billion (ppb) as an enforceable standard for the detection and removal of contaminants.
